The League of American Bicyclists recently named Glastonbury a Bicycle Friendly Community. The town earned this recognition based on the work of the town’s Bicycle Advisory Committee, chaired by Director of Health Wendy Mis, in collaboration with multiple town departments and Bike Walk Glastonbury. The League evaluated the town’s efforts in improving conditions for bicycling in the areas of engineering, enforcement, education, encouragement and evaluation/planning. As examples Glastonbury recently enacted a Complete Streets policy, added bicycling to the physical education program in the school system, recognizes Bicycle Month including Bike-to-Work/School day, established the Bicycle Advisory Committee and appointed the Bicycle Program Manager. In making these efforts to improve conditions for bicyclists and pedestrians Glastonbury joins over 350 other communities in all 50 states
Bicycle Friendly CommunitySM is a service mark of the League of American Bicyclists and is used with permission.
